The Geometry of Shadows
About this image: Bryce 4.01. A little departure into the abstract. I like to try to do something abstract once in a while, and my current musings in Metropolis have me thinking about cities. I was thinking about how far you could reduce a city and still maintain some sense of it, sort of ultimate reductionism. I settled on two elements, geometry and lighting. This image I think it still has a sense of a skyline and activity and purpose. Other people I showed it too saw things besides cities, which is sort of what I was going for. Other suggested names for the piece ranged from "Time and the City" to (half-jokingly) "Absolute Horvath". The title I settled on is an episode title from Babylon 5, and somehow seemed to fit. To me, the image itself is somewhat refreshing and cool, like a visual drink of water. Another, slightly differently lit and colored image can be found under the thumbnail.
This is simply 4 radial lights and 42 cubes made of heavy glass. Total render time 54 hours (!!!) My longest render so far.
